RE: ULTRA-RARE 1940's costume brooches with the script'Chanel' mark... According to Brunialti's "American Costume Jewelry: Volume I"page 78, The Chanel Novelty Company became Reinad in 1941 after Coco Chanel sued and won the sole use of her surname. Jewelry signed "Chanel" in script is very rare, that mark was used in the spring of 1941, then discontinued by court decree.
And I've had several that, like this one, showed no trace of a signature, at least to my eye. Unless your eyes are sharper than mine, it is UNSIGNED. In EXCELLENT original condition as shown. BRIGHT enamel, perfect except for a tiny gap on lower left foot. One tiny stone is missing on the upper right. Both flaws are clearly pictured. It measures almost 3 inches square, as shown. Fresh from the same collectors' estate as the other jewelry featured this week. Theirs was clearly signed in script, mid-back.
